Our Story & Founder

Leon Hodes, MD

Board-Certified Internist & Preventive Medicine Specialist

Founder & CEO, WellMD® | Founder, Quitology®

Over 20 years of experience in personalized, proactive healthcare

Quitology was founded by Leon Hodes, MD, a board-certified internist and preventive medicine specialist with over 20 years of experience in personalized, proactive healthcare. As CEO and founder of WellMD® — a pioneering preventive health platform he established in 1999 — Dr. Hodes has long focused on addressing the root causes of chronic disease through sustainable lifestyle change rather than just treating symptoms.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Hodes saw patients repeatedly struggle to break patterns like smoking, overeating, underexercising, excessive alcohol use, chronic stress, and other habits — even when they understood the health risks. Traditional approaches often felt rigid, disconnected, or overly focused on willpower alone. He wanted to build something more engaging, adaptive, and empowering — a tool that could meet people exactly where they were and help them create lasting change.

Drawing from decades of patient care, Dr. Hodes developed Quitology around a core insight: real, sustainable transformation happens when science meets the human experience. He integrated mindfulness, customizable breathwork, biometric feedback (especially heart rate variability — HRV), cognitive behavioral techniques, and game theory into one seamless platform. The result is a system that turns urges, stress signals, and old patterns into actionable moments of control, growth, and freedom.

Addressing Modern Stress & Anxiety

In today’s fast-paced world, stress and anxiety are reaching epidemic levels — and they’re fueling a rise in unwanted habits that affect millions. Factors like constant social media exposure, reduced face-to-face human interaction, digital overload, economic pressures, and societal isolation are making it harder than ever to stay regulated and resilient.

Notifications pull us into endless scrolling, comparison culture erodes self-esteem, remote work blurs boundaries, and loneliness amplifies emotional eating, underexercising, or turning to substances like alcohol or nicotine for quick relief. Research shows these modern stressors disrupt our nervous system balance, leading to heightened anxiety, poorer impulse control, and entrenched bad habits that feel impossible to break.

At Quitology, we recognize this reality and meet it with practical, science-backed tools designed for real life. Our customized breathwork and mindfulness modules are at the heart of our stress reduction approach, empowering you to reclaim calm and control — one breath at a time.

Customized Breathwork

Tailor your sessions to fit your needs and current state. Choose from evidence-based techniques like box breathing (4-4-4-4 rhythm for steady calm), physiologic sighs (deep inhales followed by extended exhales to reset the nervous system), calm pauses, or fully personalized rhythms.

Integrated with real-time HRV monitoring via URGEMETER™, these exercises show you immediate feedback on how your body is responding — helping you shift from stressed to regulated in minutes. Whether you’re dealing with a work deadline or social media-induced anxiety, customization makes breathwork feel accessible and effective, not one-size-fits-all.

Mindfulness Modules

Access over 50 guided sessions focused on urge surfing, present-moment awareness, and emotional regulation. These draw from proven practices like mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and cognitive behavioral techniques, adapted for quick daily use.

Track how mindfulness builds long-term resilience by improving your baseline HRV over time — countering the constant “fight-or-flight” mode triggered by modern life.

By combining these with our harm reduction philosophy, Quitology helps you address the root causes of stress-driven habits. No judgment if social media triggers a craving or isolation leads to overeating — just tools that adapt to you, turning societal pressures into opportunities for growth and balance.
